ROSEMONT, Ill. - Greg Nemisz scored the shootout winner as the Abbotsford Heat beat the Chicago Wolves 4-3 in American Hockey League action Friday.
Stefan Meyer scored twice in regulation for the Heat (23-20-7) , while Jon Rheault had the other goal.
Darren Haydar scored twice for the Wolves (25-22-6), including the game-tying goal with less than three minutes left in regulation. Andrew Kozek also scored.
Leland Irving made 30 saves for the Heat and stopped four of Chicago's five shootout attempts.
Peter Mannino stopped 28 shots for the Wolves.
Abbotsford took its first lead of the game, 3-2, at 17:12 of the third period when the puck bounced loose and landed below the left face-off circle. Centre Matt Keith chipped it across for Meyer, who beat Mannino for his second goal of the game.
Haydar tied it 29 seconds later when his shot went past Irving and under the crossbar at 17:43 of the third period.
Kozek gave Chicago to a 1-0 lead, 16:45 into the first period. Left-wing Fredrik Pettersson collected the puck in the neutral zone and flipped a backhanded pass to Kozek, who fired a quick shot past Irving.
Abbotsford drew even at 5:50 of the second period. A flurry of action in front of the net saw Mannino stop several shots, but Rheault was eventually successful in putting a rebound past the netminder.
Haydar put the Wolves back on top, 2-1, at 9:13 of the third period. Haydar and centre Ryan Garbutt moved in on a two-on-one before Garbutt slipped a pass across for Haydar, who fired a shot over Irving.
Meyer tied the game 53 seconds later when Quintin Laing backhanded the puck from near the blue-line to Meyer, who pushed it past Mannino.
