Trailing 4-3 heading into the third period, Halpern and Sergei Zubov scored goals 1:16 apart in the third quarter to give Dallas a lead it wouldn't give up. Dallas' scoring spree also ended the night of Avalanche goalie Jose Theodore. Colorado coach Joel Quenneville pulled Theodore with 18:08 remaining in the game and put in Peter Budaj. Theodore saved just 17 of 22 shots.

Wojtek Wolski had a goal and two assists for Colorado. He now has three goals and two assists in his last two games.

Colorado scored on two of four power play chances in the second period as goals by John-Michael Liles and Andrew Brunette gave the Avalanche a 4-2 lead. Dallas cut the lead to a goal when Lehtinen scored a power-play goal midway through the second.

Dallas right winger Chris Conner scored his first career NHL goal late in the first period. The goal came 42 seconds after Colorado took a 2-1 lead on Joe Sakic's 16th goal of the season.

Loui Eriksson scored a power-play goal 2:57 into the game. Colorado answered less than a minute later when Wolski picked up his own rebound following a shot that bounced off Turco's chest and put it in for his 11th goal of the season.

Marty Turco stopped 27 shots and has now won three of his last four starts.

Colorado had a 6-on-4 opportunity when it pulled Budaj with 43 seconds left and Trevor Daley was called for holding with 10.4 seconds left, but couldn't score. The Avalanche were 2-for-6 on the power play.

The Stars were without captain Brenden Morrow (wrist surgery), alternate captain Mike Modano (hip flexor), Eric Lindros (upper body injury) and Steve Ott (fractured ankle).
