SPRINGFIELD, Mass. - Left-winger Alexandre Giroux of the Hershey Bears was named the American Hockey League's MVP on Friday.

Giroux has a club-record 57 goals this season, which is the sixth-highest total in league history.

Voting for the Les Cunningham Award was conducted by AHL coaches, players and members of the media in each of the league's 29 cities.

Giroux, of Quebec City, established career highs in goals, assists (37) and points (94). He's tied with teammate Keith Aucoin for the AHL scoring lead heading into the final weekend of the regular season.

Giroux is also tied for the league lead with 21 power-play goals and his eight game-winning goals is just one off the AHL lead.

Earlier this season, Giroux went a league-record 15 straight games with at least one goal, breaking the mark of 14 held by former NHL star Brett Hull. Giroux scored 22 goals in that span.

Giroux has 255 goals and 211 assists in 564 career AHL games, heading into weekend action.
