Hurricanes lose Ruutu for 3 weeks with upper body injury, call up Samson

RALEIGH, N.C. - The Carolina Hurricanes say they expect forward Tuomo Ruutu to miss three weeks with an unspecified upper body injury.

The team Wednesday called up forward Jerome Samson on Wednesday from its American Hockey League affiliate in Charlotte on an emergency basis to replace Ruutu.

Ruutu was injured in the first period of a 5-3 victory at Montreal on Monday night and did not return. He has a team-best 17 goals and is tied for second on the team with 30 points.

Samson was recalled for the third time this season.
