Islanders still searching for first point of month

UNIONDALE, New York (Ticker) -- Nothing has gone the New York

Islanders way in December.

The Islanders will attempt to snap a six-game losing streak

Tuesday when they square off against the Washington Capitals.

Richard Park netted a goal but New York was handed a 3-1 loss

from the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday. It was the

conclusion of a four-game road trip for the Islanders, who have

posted a 1-8-0 record over their last nine contests.

Drifting out of contention in the competitive Atlantic Division,

New York has been without starting goaltender Rick DiPietro for

the most of the season. The franchise goaltender is hoping to

return before the end of the month.

His replacement, Joey MacDonald is 10-14-2 with a 3.20

goals-against average and .900 save percentage on the season.

The Capitals do not share the Islanders' woes. Washington has

won three straight contests and is starting to pull away in the

Southeast Division.
