Status: NHL left wing played from 1991-2006 with Montreal, Philadelphia, and Pittsburgh.
Ht: 6-foot-3 Wt: 226 pounds
DOB: July 5, 1969 In: St. Albans, Vt.
Early Hockey Memory: "The excitement and fun of playing. I enjoyed going out and playing every day. We had an outdoor rink. I had more fun playing with my buddies than I did in organized hockey. We would play every night at the outdoor rink."
Hockey Inspirations: "Bobby Orr. He was the guy I always wanted to be (when I was) playing on the playground."
Favorite Movies: "Heaven Can Wait and the usuals - Slapshot, Caddyshack, Animal House."
Musical Tastes: "U2."
Childhood Dream: "I wasn't really that serious of a kid where I looked forward to someday being a fireman or lawyer or anything like that. I kind of took things as they came."
Pre-Game Feeling: "Before the game it was sort of relaxed. Think about the opponent, what kind of defense they used, what kind of forwards they have, who do we watch and things like that. Some days I was vocal, not real vocal, but I'd say a few things here and there."
Hobbies/Interests: "Time with my family, go to movies, golf, relaxing, music."
Interesting Fact: "I was cut from my high school hockey team my freshman year. Actually, the guy who cut me became an assistant coach for the Devils (Red Gendron)."
Favorite Meal: "McDonalds."
Favorite Ice Cream Flavor: "Chocolate chip cookie."
Greatest Sports Moment: "Had to be winning the '93 Stanley Cup with Montreal. The two things that stand out in my mind are the celebration on the ice after we won and the parade."
Most Painful Moment: "Just losing. Any time you lose, it's painful. There's been some real disappointing losses. No one likes to lose. Once you win the Stanley Cup, you know what it's like to win. Every time you don't win it's really disappointing."
Funny Hockey Memory: "In Montreal, Kirk Muller had some of that powder that police put on dollar bills to trace them. He put it on the towels. But it ended up spreading blue all over the red carpet in the Forum locker room. They ended up having to replace the carpet. And some guys were mad because the blue dye ended up staying on them for a few days (smiles)."
Toughest Competitor Encountered: "Every team has a fierce competitor you have to watch every night. Some of the guys that stood out and played hard...there's a lot of them."
Favorite Vacation Spot: "Martha's Vineyard."
Most Memorable Goals: "Overtime goals in Stanley Cup finals; Game 3 and 4. Did you see those goals? The first went off their guy (Darryl Sydor) into the net and the other I took three swipes at (smiles)."
Worst Injury: "Junior year in college I had re-construction of my knee. Missed the whole year."
Personality Qualities Most Admired: "I think qualities for people you admire should be like, they're honest, they don't try to be something they're not."
Career Accomplishments: 1998 and 2002 Olympian; 2002 Olympic silver medalist; three-time 50-goal scorer – the first American-born player to do it; five All-Star Game appearances; scored 404 NHL goals and 42 playoff goals.
