Andrew Brunette had a goal and two assists, and Tyler Arnason added a goal for Colorado, 11-0-3 in its last 14 meetings with Carolina. The Avalanche haven't lost to the Hurricanes since dropping a 3-2 overtime decision on Feb. 9, 1996, in Denver. Peter Budaj stopped 26 shots for the Avalanche, who had lost four of six. They got back on the winning track by going 3-for-5 on the power play.

Justin Williams scored two goals for Carolina, giving him 13th this season. He snapped a 1-1 tie at 1:08 of the third period.

John Grahame stopped 25 shots for the defending Stanley Cup champion Hurricanes, who were 1-for-7 on the power play and went 0-3-1 on their road trip.

Brunette poked the puck over Grahame's stick to tie it at 2 at 8:46. Liles scored the winner at 10:35 off a pass from Brunette.

Sakic, who also had two assists, netted an insurance goal at 12:44 with a wrist shot from the slot.

Pierre Turgeon added a power-play goal with 3:37 left.
