The Boston Bruins snapped a three-game losing skid with a 4-1 win over the Tampa Bay Lightning on Sunday afternoon, but may be without the services of blue liner John-Michael Liles for the near future.

The 36-year-old was attempting to get on the fore-check early in the first period when he tripped over Ben Bishop’s stick and went crashing into the end boards. As Liles went down, his head appeared to collide with the knee of teammate Austin Czarnik.

“He crashed into the boards and I think on the replay that I saw might’ve been a knee to the head,” Bruins coach Claude Julien said post-game. “They were obviously evaluating him for that injury. I was told he wasn’t coming back.”

Liles has a history of concussions having missed time in December 2011 while with the Maple Leafs and then again in March 2014 while a member of the Carolina Hurricanes.

The veteran defenseman ranks third amongst Bruins blue liners with five points in 22 games this season.

If Liles is unable to go on Tuesday when the Bruins visit the Philadelphia Flyers, Joe Morrow, who was a healthy scratch on Sunday, could draw into the lineup. Captain Zdeno Chara remains day-to-day with a lower body injury and has not played since Nov. 22.
