Welcome to the busy world of veteran agent Don Baizley, who represents all three star players. Selanne, who turns 37 next Tuesday, continues to decide whether or not to call it quits after capturing the Stanley Cup with the Anaheim Ducks earlier this month.
"Teemu has still not decided whether he will play next season," Baizley said Thursday from Winnipeg. "If he does decide to play it would only be with the Anaheim Ducks. It is likely to be a while yet before that decision is made."
Selanne will be an unrestricted free agent Sunday after scoring putting up 94 points (48-46) in 82 regular-season games while earning US$3.75 million. He indicated after winning his first-ever Cup that he might go out on top.
Forsberg, also unrestricted after earning $5.75 million this past season, is also contemplating his playing future but is nowhere close to making a decision. Baizley said the superstar centre had a "minor surgical procedure" on his foot in his native Sweden on Thursday.
"He will not be making a decision about playing next season unless and until he can be confident that his foot will enable him to perform at full capacity," said Baizley. "It is hard to know at this point how long it will be before Peter is in a position to make this determination."
Kariya, also unrestricted, knows for sure he'll play next season, just not for which team.
"Given the uncertainty surrounding the Nashville franchise at this time, Paul will be entering the free-agent market on July 1," said Baizley.
Kariya, 32, had 76 points (24-52) in 82 regular-season games with the Predators this past season, his second in Nashville.
