ST. LOUIS - St. Louis Blues forward Paul Kariya has been sidelined after the first period of a game against the Chicago Blackhawks with what the team described as a lower body injury.

The team said Kariya would not return. Kariya apparently was injured late in the opening period Tuesday night and did not skate in warmups before the second. The Blackhawks led St. Louis 2-1.

Kariya has 18 goals and 23 assists in 70 games this season for the Blues.
