LaBarbera, Brind'Amour and Ovechkin named NHL three stars of the week

NEW YORK - Los Angeles goaltender Jason LaBarbera was named the NHL's first star of the week Monday after helping the Kings win three straight home games.Carolina Hurricanes centre Rod Brind'Amour was named second star and Washington Capitals forward Alexander Ovechkin was the third star.LaBarbera had a .976 save percentage, a 0.67 goals-against average and one shutout last week.He recorded his second career NHL shutout last Tuesday when he made 17 saves in a 6-0 rout of Nashville. Two nights later, he made 29 saves in a 2-1 victory over Dallas and stopped 34 shots in a 4-1 victory over Edmonton on Saturday.Brind'Amour led all scorers for the week with nine points (5-4) as the Hurricanes won three of four games.He had two assists in a 3-1 victory over Vancouver on Oct. 22. Brind'Amour scored once and had one assist in a 7-4 loss to Montreal last Wednesday and notched a hat trick and added an assist in an 8-3 win over the New York Islanders on Saturday.Ovechkin ranked third among NHL scorers last week with seven points in three games.He had a goal and two assists in a 5-3 victory over Tampa Bay last Wednesday, posted one goal and one assist in a 3-2 loss to Vancouver on Friday and had two assists in a 4-3 loss to St. Louis a night later.
