The Kings signed the veteran defenceman to a one-year contract on Friday.

Modry was sent to Los Angeles at the trade deadline in February along with draft picks in the deal that sent Mattias Norstrom to the Dallas Stars.

The 36-year-old Modry earned US1.9 million last year, when he had one goal and 18 points in 76 games for the Kings and Stars.

Modry earlier played for Los Angeles from 1995 until 2004. In 645 career games with Kings, Stars and Atlanta Thrashers, he has 48 goals and 241 points.

Also Friday, the Kings re-signed minor-league forward Jeff Giuliano to a one-year deal. The 28-year-old had 14 points (4-10) in 35 games for AHL Manchester last season.
