ST. PAUL, Minn. - The Minnesota Wild assigned Czech winger Petr Sykora to Houston of the AHL on Wednesday, the next step toward cutting ties with him.

Sykora, however, isn't expected to report.

The 33-year-old veteran of 935 NHL games who has 302 career goals was waived by the Wild last week, but went unclaimed.

Sykora had 25 goals in 60 games last season for the Stanley Cup-champion Pittsburgh Penguins but missed time with a concussion and couldn't find a spot in Minnesota's lineup. He had two goals and one assist in 14 games this season with the Wild.
