Minor hockey league to review rink dispute involving Tie Domi

Publish date:

The former NHL player is accused of confronting the coach of his 11-year-old son's minor hockey team and allegedly using "foul and profane language" following the loss of a playoff game Friday. Toronto Marlboros coach Lucas Miller filed a written complaint against Domi with the league Monday.

League president John Gardner had originally said he hadn't planned to take any action against the former Toronto Maple Leaf.

But at a meeting Tuesday with team and league representatives, the Marlboros expressed concern that with the team's season now over, they would be able to deal with the matter internally in an effective way.

The team filed a written submission to the GTHL on Wednesday, and the league says the review is expected to be finalized by April 18.

Domi has threatened legal action against Miller for what his lawyer says were allegations intended to embarrass him.

Miller alleged Domi "went ballistic" after the team's loss and said he thought he was going to be assaulted.

Domi's lawyer, Symon Zucker, says his client and Miller had a disagreement over Miller's coaching skills, but that the suggestion of an assault or threatened assault is false.

In a statement released Tuesday, Zucker said Miller reported his allegation to the media and that it was intended to embarrass Domi, and that a police investigation found the allegation without substance.

The statement said Domi intended to take steps to seek damages for libel.
