MONTREAL - The NHL has decided not to impose a fine or suspension on Montreal Canadiens captain Saku Koivu for a cross-check to Jozef Stumpel of the Florida Panthers.

Koivu was slapped with a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct at the 20:00 mark of the third period of the 3-2 Panthers victory on Tuesday night at the Bell Centre after a cross-check to the back of Stumpel's head or neck.

After the game, the Florida forward said his neck was a little sore but he was not injured.

Koivu was not available for comment Wednesday, but coach Guy Carbonneau said he watched the replay and "I don't think he deserved the five minutes, but he did hit him in the helmet."
