Ovechkin, Dumont and Huet named the NHL's three stars of the month

NEW YORK - NHL goal-scoring leader Alex Ovechkin was named January's first star by the league on Friday.

The Washington Capitals star led all scorers with 22 points (13-9) in 13 games during the month. He was also a plus-9.

J.P Dumont of the Nashville Predators was the NHL's second star of the month while Montreal Canadiens goalie Christobal Huet was named the third star.

Dumont, who signed a US$16-million, four-year contract extension with the Preds on Friday, had points in each of his team's 14 games during the month. He had six goals and 20 points.

Huet posted a record of 8-2-1 with a 2.40 goals-against average and one shutout in January.
