Penguins veteran Mark Recchi named NHL's first star of the week

Columbus Blue Jackets goaltender Fredrik Norrena was named the second star while Edmonton Oilers winger Ryan Smyth earned a third-star nod. Recchi recorded three goals and three assists in two games last week. On Friday, he became the 38th player in league history to reach the 500-goal plateau when he scored in a 4-3 shootout win over Dallas. He has 17 goals and 31 assists in 48 games this season.

Norrena posted consecutive victories with a 1.88 goals-against average and .949 save percentage in two weekend appearances following the all-star break.

Smyth recorded two goals and three assists in two games.
