Play the full five

Publish date:

I hate the automatic point teams get just for going into overtime. If it were up to me I would only award the point if both teams go to a shootout.

Here is my suggestion that would make the game much more fun to watch: let the teams play the full five minutes of overtime regardless of how many goals are scored. |

For me personally, watching the dying seconds of a one-goal game is way more exciting than a fluke sudden-death overtime goal. If the game is still tied after those five minutes, then award one point to each team and have them play for the extra point via a shootout.

This would also be beneficial to the television and radio stations, as they would have a better estimate as to when the game would end.
