The Hockey News’ player of the week for Jan. 4-11, 2009 is Colorado Avalanche forward Wojtek Wolski.

Following injuries to pivots Joe Sakic and Paul Stastny, the 6-foot-3, 200-pound Wolski recently moved from left wing to center where he’s responded nicely. This week the native of Zabrze, Poland tallied four goals and six points in three games. Two of those goals were game-winners. Wolski, 22, was also a plus-3 and averaged more than 20-minutes played per game.

Wolski – Colorado’s first selection (22nd overall) in 2004 – began his week’s work with two goals and a plus-2 rating in a 2-1 victory over Nashville. Two nights later Chicago came calling and Wolski tallied another two points, again including the game-winner. Against Pittsburgh on Saturday night, Wolski logged 21:35 of ice time, scoring two more points in a 5-3 victory.
