The New York Rangers have agreed to terms with hot defense prospect Matt Gilroy of the NCAA champion Boston University Terriers. The two-year contract is worth $1.75 million.

Gilroy, who won the Hobey Baker Award as the top player in collegiate hockey, was the second BU player to earn the honor, the other being new teammate Chris Drury.

The 24-year-old, 6-foot-2, 205-pound North Bellmore, N.Y. native notched eight goals and 29 assists in 45 games for the Terriers this season, which led all Hockey East defenders and ranked third among defensemen in the nation.
