Rockford IceHogs score three unanswered goals to down Toronto Marlies 3-1

ROCKFORD, Ill. - Petri Kontiola scored twice to lead the Rockford IceHogs past the Toronto Marlies, 3-1, Friday night in American Hockey League action.

Derek Nesbitt had the other goal for the IceHogs, which improved to 23-9-3-5, good for second place in the West Division, three points behind the division-leading Chicago Wolves.

Martin St. Pierre added two assists for Rockford.

Bates Battaglia had the lone goal for the North Division-leading Marlies, which lost their second straight game.

Battaglia opened the scoring 6:26 into the second period to give Toronto an early 1-0 lead, but Kontiola scored twice later in the second to give Rockford the lead heading into the third.

Nesbitt added an insurance goal midway through the third period to help drop the Marlies to 25-8-0-4.

Corey Crawford stopped 32 of 33 shots to pick up the win, while the Marlies' Scott Clemmensen turned aside 35 of 38 shots in the losing effort.
