Senators promote head coach Murray to new general manager

The Senators have promoted head coach Bryan Murray to GM. Murray's contract was set to expire June 30. It wasn't immediately clear if Muckler had resigned or been fired by the team. Murray says the team will begin searching for a new head coach in the next couple weeks.

The move, announced at an afternoon news conference, comes after several days of speculation of a front-office shakeup.

The Senators went an impressive 48-25-9 in the regular season, and advanced to the Stanley Cup final, shaking off the tag of post-season underachievers.
