The Philadelphia Flyers have called a news conference for Wednesday where they're expected to announce the signing of goaltender Ray Emery, a source told The Canadian Press on Tuesday.

The one-year deal worth a reported US$1.5 million will see Emery re-enter the National Hockey League following a one-year stint in Russia's Continental Hockey League. Emery left the NHL after being placed on waivers by the Ottawa Senators last June.

The 26-year-old Hamilton native went 22-8-0 with a 2.12 goals-against average and a .926 save percentage for Mytishchi Atlant of the KHL, and also made seven playoff appearances.

Emery, originally a fourth-round pick of the Senators in 2001, has a career record of 71-40-14 with a 2.71 goals-against average in 134 career NHL games, all with Ottawa.
