Sutter discharged from hospital; Pitkanen to undergo surgery
RALEIGH, N.C. - Carolina Hurricanes centre Brandon Sutter was discharged from hospital Sunday after suffering a concussion a night earlier, while teammate Joni Pitkanen will undergo knee surgery next week and be out a month.
Sutter was hurt during Saturday's 4-3 win over Islanders after taking a hard but clean check from Doug Weight.
The 19-year-old was discharged from a Long Island hospital and will return to Raleigh where he will be further reviewed by the Hurricanes' medical staff later this week.
Pitkanen, a 25-year-old defenceman, suffered a torn meniscus in the same game and will need three-to-four weeks of recovery following the surgery.
