The Connecticut Whale has selected forward Taylor Girard with the first pick in the 2021 NWHL draft.

Girard, a senior from Quinnipiac University in the NCAA, is is coming off of a 16-point campaign in 15 games this past season. In five years in the NCAA, which included a three-year run with Lindenwood, Girard had 32 goals and 69 points in 105 games.

The pick was the team's inaugural first overall pick in franchise history after selecting second overall three other times. The club picked forward Emma Polaski eighth overall in the second round and defenseman Hannah Bates in the fourth round. 

Emilie Harley (D, Buffalo), Maegan Beres (F, Toronto), Tatum Skaggs (F, Toronto), Taylor Davison (Toronto, D) and Mak Langei (D, Minnesota) rounded out the six-pick top five. For a full list of drafted prospects, click here.
