Toews, Niemi and Hedberg named NHL's top three players for Ferbruary

NEW YORK, N.Y. - Chicago Blackhawks captain Jonathan Toews has been named the NHL's first star of February after leading all scorers.

Toews had 21 points (six goals, 15 assists) and a plus-13 rating as the Blackhawks moved into fifth place in the Western Conference. The Winnipeg native had eight multi-point games in that span and three of his six goals were game-winners.

A couple goaltenders were also stellar in Februray. Antti Niemi of the San Jose Sharks was named second star while New Jersey's Johan Hedberg was given the third star.

Niemi posted a 10-2-0 record with a 1.89 goals-against average, .934 save percentage and three shutouts. In the process, the Sharks reclaimed top spot in the Pacific Division.

Hedberg helped the Devils continue a stunning turnaround after a slow start to the season. New Jersey has become one of the hottest teams in the Eastern Conference thanks in part to Hedberg's 7-1-1 record in February.

The 37-year-old goaltender has been playing in relief of Martin Brodeur, who suffered a knee sprain Feb. 6 at Montreal, and has earned a 1.43 GAA, .943 save percentage and two shutouts since then.
