In May of 2011, Derek Boogaard was found dead in a Minneapolis apartment after accidentally overdosing on painkillers he took while consuming alcohol.

According to a Fox report, two men were arrested Tuesday in connection to Boogaard's death: Oscar Johnson, a physician's assistant from Utah, and Jordan Hart, son of former New York Islander Gerry Hart:

Law enforcement sources tell FOX 5 in New York that Jordan Hart, the son of New York Islanders legend Gary (sic) Hart, was arrested Tuesday morning on Long Island by the DEA's New York drug enforcement task force. Sources said Hart was supplying Boogaard with the prescription painkillers that killed him. He could (face) 20 years in prison, if convicted.

Also arrested was Oscar Johnson, a physician's assistant in Utah. Johnson is accused of writing Percocet prescriptions for Jordan Hart on a near-monthly basis for 2 years, totaling 2,920 pills.

Boogaard, who was beloved by fans as a fighter with the Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers, became addicted to painkillers as a member of the Wild. In 2010, when he was with the Rangers, Boogaard suffered a concussion in a fight that all but ended his hockey career. While he was battling migraines and symptoms of post-concussion syndrome, the report indicates he began asking teammates for a Percocet connection. The report says Boogaard began purchasing painkillers from Hart in November of 2010, and Hart would get the drugs from prescriptions written by Johnson.

According to a New York Times story from 2012, Boogaard also had received more than 100 prescriptions "for thousands of pills" from Minnesota Wild and New York Rangers team doctors. The Rangers, the team Boogaard played for at the time of his death, did not prescribe Percocet. The Times story revealed a troubling history of Boogaard's addiction to the pills he was being prescribed by doctors and the access he had to them.

Jordan Hart's father Gerry played seven seasons for the New York Islanders in the 1970s, two with the Quebec Nordiques and three with the St. Louis Blues. A defenseman, he scored 29 goals and 179 points in 730 games. Jordan Hart, 31, played two seasons in the ECHL with the Utah Grizzlies from 2007-2009 and six games with the Bridgeport Sound Tigers of the American League in 2008-09.
