Vancouver Canucks recall Edler to fill in for injured defenceman Salo

Publish date:

Salo is expected to be out of action for a week. The team said Friday that Salo suffered a first-degree sprain in a 5-2 loss to the Minnesota Wild on Thursday night.

Salo, 32, has three goals and seven assists for 10 points in 13 games this season.

Vancouver is also missing top-three defenceman Willie Mitchell, who still hasn't resumed skating after sustaining a concussion during a game on Oct. 21.

Edler, recalled from Manitoba of the AHL, is expected to join the Canucks in time for Saturday's game at Colorado. Chosen with the 91st pick in the 2004 draft, the 20-year-old Swedish defenceman has two assists and six penalty minutes in 10 games with Manitoba. He posted 53 points in 62 games last season, his final campaign in junior hockey.
