Vancouver Canucks sign free agent Johnson, re-sign goaltender Sanford

VANCOUVER - The Vancouver Canucks added a forward to their lineup and kept their backup goaltender Wednesday.

The Canucks signed free agent Ryan Johnson and re-signed Curtis Sanford to NHL contracts.

Johnson, 32, had five goals and 13 assists for the St. Louis Blues last season. The six-foot-one, 185-pound Thunder Bay, Ont., native was picked 36th overall by Florida in the 1994 draft.

Sanford, 28, played 16 games last season as a backup to Roberto Luongo. He had a 4-3-1 record and a 2.83 goals against average.
