COLUMBUS, Ohio - Vancouver defenceman Dan Hamhuis was injured when he collided with teammate Kevin Bieksa and Columbus' Rick Nash in the first period and will not return.

Nash carried the puck into the Vancouver zone with a full head of steam. Skating backward into the play, Bieksa hip-checked Nash into Hamhuis, who was converging on the puck from the other side. Hamhuis took a hard shot, went down and his head smacked the ice.

The team would not disclose the nature of the injury.

Hamhuis, who has had recent concussion, was face down in the right circle for about 45 seconds. He was attended to by the team trainer before he slowly skated off on his own and walked to the visiting locker room.

Hamhuis leads the Canucks with a plus-29 rating.
