DENVER - The Colorado Avalanche acquired forward Tomas Fleischmann from the Washington Capitals for defenceman Scott Hannan on Tuesday.

Fleischmann has four goals and six assists in 23 games this season and gives the Avalanche a player who can play on their top two lines.

Last year, the Koprivnice, Czech Republic native set career highs in goals (23), assists (28) and points (51) in 69 games for Washington.

"In Tomas we are acquiring a top-six forward who is only 26 years old," Avalanche general manager Greg Sherman said in a release. "His addition will bolster our lineup immediately."

The 31-year-old Hannan gives the Capitals a steadying presence for their blue-line. He's been a plus player in all but two of his 11 NHL seasons before this one, and has six assists in 23 games this year.

In 775 career games, he has 30 goals, 150 assists and a plus-22 rating.
