Despite trailing 2-0 in the first period on Sunday, New Jersey Devils goaltender Scott Wedgewood has done his part to keep his team in the game.

Late in the first period Wedgewood robbed both Jordan Staal and Victor Rask to keep it a two-goal game after 20 minutes.

Carolina took an early 2-0 lead on goals from Ron Hainsey and Rask. The Devils were out-shot 14-3 by the ‘Canes in the first.

Originally a 2010 third-round pick of the Devils, Wedgewood made his fourth career start on Sunday. The 23-year-old was 2-0-1 with a 0.66 G.A.A. and a .978 save percentage entering the game in Carolina.

Prior to puck drop the Devils announced that goaltender Cory Schneider, who has been out of the lineup with a Grade 1 MCL sprain in his right knee, will be placed on injured reserve retroactive to March 4 on Monday.

Schneider will join AHL Albany on a conditioning assignment, practice with the club on Monday and return to New Jersey for practice with the Devils on Tuesday.

The Devils play host to the Boston Bruins on Tuesday night.
