Watch Mike Condon twist body, use arm to rob Mike Richards of sure goal

It took 15 games, but Mike Richards finally scored his first goal as a Washington Capital Monday against the Arizona Coyotes, which meant the 31-year-old was coming into Wednesday’s game trying to keep his name in the goal column. And were it not for Montreal Canadiens netmdiner Mike Condon make an incredible save, Richards would have been celebrating goal two.

In the second period, with the Capitals down 4-1, Richards jumped on a loose puck that had bounced out to the left of the Canadiens’ net. Without taking a single second to settle down the puck, Richards ripped it toward the net, which was left almost entirely wide open as Condon faced away from the play.

Nine times out of 10, Richards would have been celebrating a goal, but Condon flung his body to the right and managed to bat the puck out of harm’s way with a spinning blocker stop:

Condon would get peppered with shots throughout the game, but stood tall for most of the first two period. It wasn’t until the late stages of the third period when the Capitals finally struck for second and third goals on the evening, but Condon was able to turn away all attempts that came his way in the final 2:53 to secure a 4-3 win for the Canadiens.

After losing his past five games, Condon has found himself on a bit of a hot streak again, too. He has a 2-0-1 record, 1.89 goals-against average and .942 save percentage in his past three games, and it’s not like he was facing easy competition, either, as he got victories over Philadelphia, Nashville and Washington.
