ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Alert Bay won the $200,000 City of Hope Mile by a length Sunday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Martin Garcia, Alert Bay ran a mile on turf in 1:33.58 and paid $10.80, $6.80 and $3.20 at 4-1 odds.

Big Cazanova returned $17.80 and $7.60 at 18-1 odds, while 8-5 favorite Avanzare was another 1 1/2 lengths back in third and paid $2.80 to show.

The victory, worth $120,000, increased Alert Bay's career earnings to $954,495, with 10 wins in 19 starts. He has won four of five starts on the track's turf course.
