A Lot wins Belmont's Elusive Quality; sets course record

NEW YORK (AP) A Lot beat Green Mask by a nose in a battle of closers Saturday to set the course record in the $100,000 Elusive Quality Stakes on the turf at Belmont Park.

The time was 1:19.23 for the seven furlongs over the firm footing.

A Lot rallied from seventh to grab the lead at the top the stretch and withstood the challenge from Green Mask, the trailer for much of the race in the nine-horse field.

It was the fourth win in 14 starts for the 4-year-old trained by Chad Brown and ridden by Irad Ortiz Jr.

A Lot paid $11.80, $4.60 and $3.30 as the 9/2 second choice.

Green Mask, the 6/5 favorite, made his first start since December, a sixth-place finish in the Longines Sprint in Hong Kong. He returned $2.90 and $2.30.

Mosler paid $3.80 to show.
