Show Stealer wears down favorite late to win at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) Show Stealer overhauled 3-5 favorite Two Taps in deep stretch to win the $60,000 feature for fillies and mares by a head Thursday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Tyler Baze, Show Stealer ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:44.01 and paid $12.80, $3.20 and $2.60 at 5-1 odds.

Two Taps returned $2.20 and $2.10, while Big Break was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $3 to show.

Idle since Feb. 25, Show Stealer was fourth turning for home and went four-wide outside of pacesetter Big Break and Two Taps with a furlong to go and gradually gained the lead.

The victory, worth $36,000, increased Show Stealer's career earnings to $155,760, with three wins in 17 starts for trainer Art Sherman.

''She's a cool filly, one of those that tries real hard,'' Sherman said. ''She gets a check just about every time.''
