Phillies star Ryan Howard filed for a record $10 million salary for a first-time arbitration-eligible player when players and teams exchanged arbitration numbers Friday afternoon. Howard, who was renewed at $900,000 last season by the Phillies, is aiming to beat the $7.4-million salary Miguel Cabrera made with his arbitration victory as a first-time arbitration-eligible player last year.

Orioles star pitcher Erik Bedard filed for $8 million. Bedard has rejected Orioles' overtures toward a multiyear deal and has been on the trading block.

All the salary arbitration numbers should be released later Friday afternoon.
