Red Sox dominate All-Star voting

Boston Red Sox designated hitter David Ortiz and New York Yankees shortstop Derek Jeter continue to lead all American League players in the latest fan balloting results for the 2008 All-Star Game.

Ortiz tops all players with 1,605,660 votes, while Jeter is a close second with 1,564,029 votes. Four other members of the Red Sox and one more Yankee continue to lead their respective positions in the balloting.

The other Boston players at the top are catcher Jason Varitek, first baseman Kevin Youkilis, second baseman Dustin Pedroia and outfielder Manny Ramirez. The other Yankee is third baseman Alex Rodriguez.

Joining Ramirez in the top three outfield positions are Texas' Josh Hamilton and Seattle's Ichiro Suzuki. The closest race is at catcher, where Varitek has garnered 896,022 votes and Minnesota's Joe Mauer has received 855,200. All-Star squads for both leagues will be announced on Sunday, July 6. The 79th All-Star Game will be played July 15 at Yankee Stadium.

Fans can cast their votes for starters up to 25 times until Wednesday, July 2 at 11:59 p.m. ET. Starting rosters will be announced during the 2008 All-Star Game Selection Show on Sunday, July 6 (on TBS).
