The New York Mets acquired outfielder Emil Brown from the Padres and will designate him for assignment to the Buffalo Bisons, the Mets announced today. Brown will be on the Bisons' roster for their matchup against the Durham Bulls tonight.

He has played in 736 major league games since making his debut with Pittsburgh in 1997. This year, in 41 games with Triple-A Portland, he's hit .260 (38-146) with 13 doubles, four home runs and 22 RBIs, and, against lefty pitchers, he's hitting .391 (9-23).

The 34-year-old has played all three outfield positions and has served as a designated hitter.
