The Nationals are discussing manager Manny Acta's fate today, and the belief now is while his job remains in jeopardy, he'll keep it for at least a couple more days while team higher-ups consider the situation, sources say.

The general belief is the team should be better than 16-45 and that someone needs to take the fall, so barring a turnaround, that person will likely be Acta. The Nationals already fired pitching coach Randy St. Claire, but that didn't appear to spark the beleaguered club.

The Nats are off today but open a series against the Yankees in New York Tuesday night. If Acta's bosses are hoping to see wins quickly, he has a difficult task this week.

Acta is very well-liked by the Nationals, who admire his patience. However, sources say they wouldn't mind seeing a little more fight and feistiness out of him as the club's struggles worsen. That's a common complaint about managers on losing teams.

SI.com and Foxsports.com first reported on Saturday that Acta was likely to be fired in the coming days.
