DeRosa, Giants agree to deal

The San Francisco Giants and free-agent Mark DeRosa have agreed on a two-year deal, for $12 million, SI.com has learned.

DeRosa passed a physical administered Monday and the team plans to announce the signing Tuesday.

The Giants would employ DeRosa at third base, first base and possibly in the outfield. Pablo Sandoval could play first or third. The Giants could still be in the market for an outfielder but like some of the young outfielders they have already.

DeRosa, a 34-year-old journeyman, has played for five teams in his 12-year career. DeRosa had his best year with the Cubs in 2008, batting .285 with 21 home runs and 87 RBIs before being traded that offseason to the Indians. After 71 games in Cleveland, he was dealt to the Cardinals for the stretch run. He finished the year batting .250 with a career-high 23 home runs and 78 RBIs, then batted .385 in St. Louis' Division Series loss to the Dodgers.
