Beltran has knee surgery, could miss opener

Mets center fielder Carlos Beltran underwent arthroscopic surgery on his troublesome right knee Wednesday, has learned.

Beltran will need 8-12 weeks of rehab and is expected to return to baseball activities at or around Opening Day. The Mets begin the season at home vs. the Marlins on April 5.

A five-time All-Star, Beltran appeared in only 81 games last season and spent more than two months on the disabled list because of a bone bruise behind the right knee cap.
