A's strike deal to land Kouzmanoff

The Oakland A's reached an agreement Friday to acquire third baseman Kevin Kouzmanoff from the San Diego Padres in a four-player trade, SI.com has confirmed.

The Padres will receive outfielder Scott Hairston, outfield prospect Aaron Cunningham and infield prospect Eric Sogard.

The deal, which was first reported by the San Francisco Chronicle, has not been officially announced and won't be finalized until the players pass physicals.

Kouzmanoff has been mentioned in trade rumors off and on since Chase Headley made his big league debut for San Diego in June 2007.

The trade would allow the Padres to move Headley to third base. Kyle Blanks, who made his debut last season, would replace Headley in left field.

Hairston could platoon in center with Tony Gwynn Jr.

Kouzmanoff, 28, is a .261 career hitter, with 62 homers in four seasons. He hit a career-high 23 home runs in 2008.

Hairston, 29, will return to San Diego after spending parts of the last three seasons with the club. He split the 2009 season between the Padres and A's and posted a .265 average with 17 homers and 64 RBIs.

Cunningham, 23, split time the last two seasons between Oakland and Triple-A Sacramento. He'll likely start next season in the minors.
