Washburn seems likely to sign with one of the pursuing teams, as rumors of a possible retirement have been denied.
The Royals' interest is real in the wake of some starting pitching concerns, league sources say. However, Washburn is said to have enjoyed his time in Seattle and wouldn't be opposed to returning there, either, if the offer is right.
Washburn, 35, has spent his entire 12-year career in the American League. He went 9-9 with a 3.78 ERA for the Mariners and Tigers last season and is 107-109 lifetime.
