Orioles to hire Showalter as manager
Buck Showalter will be hired as manager of the Orioles, sources confirm. ESPN.com first reported that Showalter, currently an ESPN analyst, was going to be hired by Baltimore. Orioles owner Peter Angelos wanted either Showalter or Rick Dempsey. Some believe Andy MacPhail, the team's president of baseball operations, liked former Indians manager Eric Wedge, too.
Showalter has previously managed the New York Yankees, Arizona Diamondbacks and Texas Rangers, taking the first two of those three teams to the playoffs. He has not managed since leaving the Rangers after the 2006 season.
