Braves RHP Gavin Floyd breaks bone in elbow
WASHINGTON (AP) Atlanta Braves right-hander Gavin Floyd left Thursday night's game against the Washington Nationals with an apparent elbow injury.
Floyd flexed his pitching arm awkwardly after giving up a long foul ball to Jayson Werth on the first pitch of the seventh inning. The Braves trainer went to the mound and examined Floyd's elbow. Floyd then left the game for reliever Anthony Varvaro.
Floyd was making his ninth start since returning from Tommy John surgery. The Braves lost two starters - Kris Medlen and Brandon Beachy - to the same injury during spring training.
Floyd had been working on a two-hit shutout. He had walked one and struck out six through six innings.
