Young can earn up to $6,325,000 with Yankees

NEW YORK (AP) Chris Young can earn up to $6,325,000 under his one-year contract with the New York Yankees.

The outfielder is guaranteed a $2.5 million salary under the deal announced Sunday and can make $3,825,000 more in performance bonuses based on plate appearances.

Young would earn $150,000 for 250, $200,000 for 275, $300,000 for 300, $350,000 for 350, $375,000 each for 375 and 400, $475,000 for 450, $500,000 for 500 and $550,000 each for 550, and 600.

The 31-year-old Young signed a $7.25 million, one-year deal with the New York Mets and was released on Aug. 16 after a season-long slump. He made his debut with the Yankees on Sept. 2 and homered in three straight games, then stole home in another game.

Young hit a combined .222 with 11 homers and 38 RBIs for the Yankees and Mets last season.

Young has also played with Arizona and Oakland during nine seasons in the majors. He is a career .234 hitter with 155 homers, 486 RBIs and 130 steals, and was an NL All-Star in 2010.
