CLEVELAND (AP) Indians All-Star outfielder Michael Brantley is again sidelined with a back issue that has bothered him for several weeks.
Brantley will sit out Saturday's game against Detroit, and manager Terry Francona indicated the 27-year-old will probably miss Sunday's series finale as well. The Indians are off Monday, giving Brantley more time to recover.
Francona says Brantley had back spasms late in Friday's home opener. Francona regretted playing Brantley, who was examined and cleared by team doctors beforehand. Brantley is batting just .125 and has driven in one run in two games.
Francona does not expect Brantley to go on the disabled list.
Brantley was scratched from the starting lineup Wednesday in Houston and also sat out Thursday's game. He batted .327 with 20 homers and 97 RBIs last season, when he finished third in AL MVP voting.
