Tigers' Price leaves game with injury

DETROIT (AP) Detroit Tigers left-hander David Price left Friday night's game against Kansas City in the seventh inning with an apparent ankle injury after stepping on a bat.

With one out and runners on first and second, Alex Gordon singled on an 0-1 pitch. Gordon dropped his bat at the plate, but home plate umpire Alan Porter, anticipating a play at the plate, grabbed it and tossed it toward the screen.

Price, running to back up a throw to the plate, stepped on the bat with his right foot and immediately came up lame, hopping until he came to a stop near the Royals dugout. He was examined by manager Brad Ausmus and the Detroit training staff, but left the game after trying a warmup pitch.

Eric Hosmer scored from second on the play, giving the Royals a 5-4 lead.
