Dodgers place catcher Yasmani Grandal (concussion) on 7-day DL

Sunday May 24th, 2015

The Los Angeles Dodgers placed catcher Yasmani Grandal on the 7-day concussion disabled list, the team announced Saturday

Grandal left Friday's game against the San Diego Padres after he was hit in the head by Yangervis Solarte's follow-through and by a foul tip off the bat of Matt Kemp in the third and fourth innings.

Catcher Austin Barnes was called up from Triple A to serve as A.J. Ellis's backup while Grandal is out.

The Dodgers acquired Grandal this winter in the trade that sent Kemp to the Padres.

Grandal is batting .291 with an .869 OPS in 33 games this season. He has 17 RBIs, the third-most of any Dodgers batter.
